Module 1 – Single Phase Capacitor Motor
This module explains the following motors:
• Capacitor Start Induction Motors
• Capacitor Run Induction Motors
• Capacitor Start / Run Induction Motors
Module 2 – Three Phase Motors
This module explains the following motors:
• Squirrel Cage Induction Motor
• Slip-ring Motor
At the end of this module learners will be able to:
• Name the main parts and functions
• Describe the basic operating procedures
• Perform basic electrical tests i.e. – Continuity and insulation tests of windings – Continuity and insulation tests between windings and earth – Checks made to brush gear
• Perform basic mechanical checks
Module 3 – Overview of DC Motors & Generators
At the end of this module learners will be able to:
• Name the main parts and functions (armature, frame/stator, brush gear)
• Describe the basic operating principles of the DC Motor & DC Generator
• Explain motor classification (series-wound, shunt-wound, compound motors)
• Perform basic electrical tests i.e. – Continuity tests including terminal (winding) identification – Insulation tests between series and shunt windings – Testing armature circuit (armature, inter-poles and brush gear)
• Perform basic mechanical checks
