Module 3 – Basic Roller chain maintenance
At the end of this module learners will be able to:
• Describe isolation and safety procedures of chain drives
• Remove and clean roller-chains on a typical drive unit
• Inspect sprocket wheels for wear, damage or run-out
• Inspect chains for twist, flexibility, mis-alignment or stretch
• Use methods for calculating / determining chain stretch
• Select correct replacement chains
• Describe and perform procedures for chain installation and replacement
• Achieve correct chain tension
• Correct mis-alignment of chain drives
• Describe purpose and function of chain-tensioners, and perform basic installation / adjusting procedures with fitted-tensioners
• Describe importance of lubrication / perform 3 methods of chain lubrication
