4 Modules
This series will give you a better understanding of fire safety, prevention and the extinguishing of fires.
Module 1 – The Theory of Fire
At the end of this module Learners will be able to answer these questions:
• What is fire
• What are the three components of fire
• What are the characteristics of fuel
• What are the different sources of ignition
• What role does oxygen play in a fire
Module 2 – The Theory of Fire Extinguishing
At the end of this module Learners will know:
• The four methods of how to extinguish a fire
• The four classes of fire
• The most effective method to extinguish each class of fire
• Possible hazards when extinguishing a fire
• Possible fire hazards in the workplace
Module 3 – Portable Fire Extinguishers
At the end of this module Learners will be able to:
• Recognise each type of extinguisher
• Know for which class of fire to use it and
• Know how to apply it effectively
Module 4 – Evacuation (a) & Housekeeping (b)
At the end of this module Learners will know:
• What to do when you discover a fire
• How to raise the alarm
• How to contact the emergency services
• How to evacuate a building
• How to move in smoke
• How to adapt the procedures to your own work or domestic situation
They will also:
• Have a better understanding of fire prevention
• Be able to recognise a possible fire hazard
• Know how to remove a possible fire hazard
