6 Modules
The complete course consists of 6 video modules and 1 PDF manual which include self-assessment
Module 1 – Introduction to General Engineering Disciplines
At the end of this module the learner will be able to:
• Describe certain concepts regarding people and practices in typical engineering environments
Module 2 – Standard Linear Measuring
At the end of this module the learner will be able to describe standard metric linear measurements on the following instruments:
• Engineer’s steel rule
• Wooden folding rule
• Standard 2 or 3 meter tape measure
Module 3 – Engineering Concepts
At the end of this module the learner will be able to verbally and actively describe the following most basic engineering concepts or “standards” (including):
• Flat Straight
• Level Square
• Squared off or “squarely” Round
• Diameter Radius
Module 4 – Using Basic Measuring Instruments
At the end of this module the learner will demonstrate his / her ability to obtain various measurements using conventional non-precision measuring instruments:
• To within one millimeter with tape measurers and folding rules
• To within 0,5 millimetres with an engineer’s steel rule
On the following surfaces:
• External surfaces
• Internal flat surfaces
• Internal round / cylinder surfaces
Module 5 – Engineering Sketches / Basic Drawings
At the end of this module the learner will demonstrate his/her ability to interpret basic information from a given engineering drawing an /or sketch in isometric and orthographic projection of a single component in terms of:
• Shape of object
• Dimensions of object (including tolerances)
• Basic hidden detail
• Material from which object is made
• Scale of drawing
Module 6 – Marking off
At the end of this module the learner will demonstrate his / her ability to mark-off detail, from drawing, to metal work piece using the following conventional hand-held instruments and tools:
• A scriber
• An “odd-leg” (Jenny) calliper
• A divider
• A machinists hammer
