Module 1 – Rotary Shaft Oil Seals
At the end of this module the learner will be able to:
• Describe the basic principles of oil seals and identify commonly used designs / types
• Replace oil seal correctly ensuring a leak free joint
Module 2 – Static Seals
At the end of this module the learner will be able to:
• Describe the purpose of a “gasket”
• Identify gasket material types – non-metallic, metallic, “o –rings”, Sealants
• Replace gaskets on typical industrial equipment
• Make a “paper/board” (vellumoid) gasket
Module 3 – Gland Packings
At the end of this module the learner will be able to:
• Replace gland packing in a typical piece of equipment, for example, a centrifugal pump or a gate / globe valve
Module 4 – Mechanical Seals
At the end of this module the learner will be able to:
• Describe the fundamental principles of mechanical seals
• Identify o-ring, wedge and bellows seals
• Describe important maintenance aspects of mechanical seals
